Royal Philips to move employees to Oakland

Health technology company Royal Philips is relocating 125 employees from several Pittsburgharea offices to a 14,000-squarefoot space in the new Schenley Place in Oakland. The move is intended to bring company offices closer to universities, medical centers and research partners, the company said.

UPMC Jameson has opened an outpatient center at the New Castle hospital, which includes heart and vascular and esophageal and lung surgery institutes. Since Jameson’s merger with UPMC a year ago, UPMC has invested more than $31 million in facility upgrades at Jameson.

Obama-era retirement savings program for workers gets the ax

A savings program put into place under President Barack Obama and designed to get more people to put away money for retirement is being killed by the Treasury Department, which said it is too costly to maintain. The program, called myRA, was launched about two years ago for those who don’t have access to a 401(k) or another retirement plan from their employer.

Wells Fargo in another scandal, this time in auto lending

Scandal-plagued Wells Fargo is back in hot water for signing customers up for products that they didn’t need or want. This time it’s auto insurance, and the bank says it may have cost about 20,000 people their cars. San Franciscobased Wells Fargo acknowledged that it enrolled roughly 570,000 auto loan borrowers for what’s known as collateral production insurance on their vehicles when the customers already had appropriate insurance. It will pay $80 million in refunds and account adjustments to those people. Nearly a year ago, Wells Fargo admitted that its employees opened up to 2 million accounts for customers without getting their permission in order to meet overly aggressive sales goals. The bank paid $180 million in fines and penalties and reached a settlement to pay an additional $142 million to customers through a class-action lawsuit.
