“It was a blast,” said Brynn Marie Himes, who will appear with husband Josh Himes Sunday on CBS’s “Candy Crush” (9 p.m.).

The two originally are from Western Pennsylvania: she from Carmichaels and he from Monaca. They met via Twitter when both were living and working out of state. She sings and writes music. He’s an ironworker who also boxes under the moniker “The Handsome Hitman.”

How could the network turn them down? CBS debuted “Candy Crush” several weeks ago, pitting teams of two against each other on giant screen versions of the popular smartphone game.

When they got the call, they weren’t sure what to expect, other than knowing the show was developed by some of the people who brought extreme “Fear Factor” and “Wipeout” to American television.

“You’re trying to make matches [of digital candy] while hanging in a harness. It is nuts,” Mrs. Himes said.

“You can’t really prepare for it, other than being mentally sharp and physically fit,” added her husband.

At stake is a $100,000 prize at the end of the season. However, for this couple there’s a bonus: national exposure for Fight2Fight, an organization they launched on New Year’s Day.

“It was inspired by my brother Tony, who has testicular cancer,” Mrs. Himes said. “He was going through his chemo treatment when he had the cancer for a second time, and he was getting it sometimes for 10, 12 hours a day.”

They are in the process of having Fight2Fight certified as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. The goal is to help inspire people, “whether you’re battling cancer, addiction, abuse, fighting for freedom, love,” Mrs. Himes said.
