Custom-built home in Upper St. Clair offers two acres of land

- By: Beth Vassallo

Seventeen years ago, Walt and Yanira Ogrodnik were looking for a home for their growing family that was in the Upper St. Clair school district and set on several acres of land.

“We found the one and only parcel that offered that in the school district,” said Mr. Ogrodnik. “It isn’t easy to find a property like that in t his area.”

And even the land that the couple purchased was divided into half-acre lots – destined for four single family homes – but the Ogrodniks bought all four lots, built their 5,200-squarefoot home on an acre of it and left the other acre undeveloped.

“We used the undeveloped acre as a walking trail and a place to ride gokarts,” said Mr. Ogrodnik. “It was a fun place to raise our kids.”

In an effort to downsize now that their children are adults, the Ogrodniks are selling their custom-built home at 300 Hardy Drive. The five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath and five-car garage property is located just off of Rt. 19 and close to St. Clair Country Club, South Hills Village and Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center. It’s also just 30 minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh International Airport.

Listed at $1,145,000, the home’s style is a cross between craftsman and contemporary. Its grand Governor’s driveway leaves a memorable first impression as does the mature professional landscaping. There is a tremendous amount of high-end features throughout the house including gorgeous wrought iron detailing; solid hardwood floors, doors and trim; an array of raised ceilings; a vaulted great room with skylights, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and 23 custom closets that provide an abundance of extra storage space.

The home’s open floor plan includes a gourmet kitchen with a granite center island, maple cabinetry and Viking, Subzero and Fisher Pakel stainless steel appliances. Also located on the first floor is a spacious laundry room with built-in cabinets and ironing board, dual offices and a master suite complete with a spacious bedroom, two walk-in closets and a bathroom with five-star resort details.

Four additional bedrooms are on the second floor as is a spacious center loft, a private balcony off of the fifth bedroom and a large, floored attic.

The finished lower level of the home features a finished game room, a wet bar and a full bathroom. There’s also a covered and fenced rear patio with a wooden ceiling and eight-foot doors. A natural rock path surrounds the garden. The undeveloped acre behind the house can be subdivided or used for a swimming pool, a tennis court, an additional garage, etc.
