Penguins to move exhibition to Lemieux Sports Complex
The preseason game the Penguins were supposed to play at Rostraver Ice Garden has been moved to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
After a review, Kraft Hockeyville USA partners determined that Rostraver Ice Garden in Belle Vernon was not equipped to play host to an NHL preseason game.
So the Penguins will face the St. Louis Blues at their Cranberry practice facility at 8 p.m. Sept. 24. This will be the first NHL game of any kind at the site.
In lieu of a game at Rostraver, the local rink will be the centerpiece of a fourday event that will include youth hockey clinics, referee clinics, a parade and appearances by the Stanley Cup and members of the Penguins and Blues organizations.
The Penguins will have a ticketed practice session Sept. 24 at Rostraver Ice Garden.
Members of the Belle Vernon community and youth hockey players from Rostraver Ice Garden will receive the majority of the tickets, although the ticket distribution plan for the game and practice session will be announced at a later date.
Rostraver still will get $150,000 in arena upgrades as part of the contest.
In another part of the switch, the Penguins will bring their game-night entertainment operation to a Rostraver youth hockey game that week, including anthem singer Jeff Jimerson.
