Hill District man faces trial in death of girlfriend
A Hill District man has been ordered to stand trial in the stabbing death of his girlfriend in an apparent domestic incident.
Quincy Deon Fuqua, 31, is charged with homicide in the June 2 slaying of Makebia Morgan, 34, of Swissvale, who was stabbed more than 60 times, according to an autopsy report by the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office.
Her body was found in the basement of a building on Francis Court in the Hill District. She was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, where she was later pronounced dead.
District Judge Thomas Caulfield ordered Fuqua held for court during a preliminary hearing Friday morning in City Court, Downtown.
In an affidavit, Pittsburgh police said they found Fuqua covered in blood when they arrived at the scene on June 2. He was outside the basement door.
Detective Jeffery Abraham noted that the walls of the basement were coated in blood.
Police also found a bloodsoaked tire iron and a bent steak knife in the basement, the affidavit said.
As officers were taking Fuqua into custody, he told them “I had to kill her. … I had to kill her,” according to the affidavit.
Fuqua is being held without bond in the Allegheny County Jail. He is scheduled for formal arraignment Sept. 8.
