Target buys tech company to help it offer same-day delivery
Target said Monday it is buying a delivery logistics company to help it offer same-day delivery service to in-store shoppers. Software made by San Francisco-based Grand Junction connects retailers with about 700 delivery companies around the country that pick up items from stores or distribution centers and take them to customers. Expanding delivery and making it faster have been key areas for retailers trying to attract convenienceseeking shoppers. Target and Walmart have adjusted their shipping
programs as they try to lure online shoppers away from Amazon. Target’s latest move is aimed not at online shoppers, but at making buying an easier decision for instore shoppers.
Middle Road Inn hit with consumer alert
The Allegheny County Health Department posted a consumer alert at Middle Road Inn on Middle Road in Indiana Township after an inspector found more than a dozen serious food safety violations. Some of the problems included a walk-in refrigerator not maintaining proper temperatures, unsafe cooling procedures, failure to date mark foods, lack of a handwashing sink in the kitchen, bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods, dishwashing machine not sanitizing and lack of a certified food safety manager.
Public company costs dent Limbach profit
Limbach Holdings reported a smaller second quarter profit than it did a year ago, when the Strip District building infrastructure contractor did not incur expenses related to being a publicly traded company. Revenue rose 22 percent from year-ago levels. Limbach reported net income of $425,000, or 5 cents per share, on sales of $117.8 million, vs. earnings of $2 million and revenue of $96.6 million in the year-ago quarter. The company said its backlog of work stands at $513.8 million, up 18 percent since the end of 2016.
