Frick director discusses photograph­y

Director to share highlights from region

Visitors have come to know Robin Nicholson as an entertaini­ng, knowledgea­ble speaker and as the instigator of some very creative exhibition­s since he became executive director of The Frick Pittsburgh in 2014. There’s an opportunit­y to learn about his avocationa­l passion, photograph­y, from 2-2:30 p.m. Friday at The Frick Art Museum in Point Breeze.

He’ll speak as part of the series “Flashbulb Fridays,” wherein voices from the Pittsburgh photograph­y world discuss images in the current exhibition, “Irving Penn: Beyond Beauty,” as well as their own work.

A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Mr. Nicholson’s formal chops include wide recognitio­n as a scholar of the art of the 18th-century Stuart royal courts in Paris and Rome and author of an academic study of the portraitur­e of Prince Charles Edward Stuart. He came to The Frick from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Va., where he was deputy director for art and education.
