Videos show that both sides in Va. were violent

-

In reference to “Trump Blames Violence on ‘ Both Sides’ ” (Aug. 16): Violence is violence. There is not “soft violence” when it comes from the left and “brutal violence” coming from the right. Both are done by people who do not control their emotions and think that the way to win an argument is to use force to subdue physically their opponents and, in that way, silence their ideas. It takes two to tango.

As one of millions of Americans who watched the videos of the disturbing events in Charlottesville, Va., I saw that some participants in both groups were armed with clubs and protected their heads with helmets. They viciously attacked each other, and the police were not acting strongly enough to separate these two factions.

There is no doubt. There were two groups of haters trying to silence their enemies. President Donald Trump is right: There is violence on both sides. CARLOS J. BILLA Munhall Let’s just change it around a little bit and consider what would happen if nonwhites marched in the streets worshipping nonwhites who killed and slaughtered white people. What would happen if Muslims marched through the heart of Manhattan with banners praising Osama bin Laden? Do you think New Yorkers would be just a little ticked off and would protest against them? What if Japanese people marched down the streets of Washington, D.C., praising the leaders who launched the attack on Pearl Harbor or ordered the Bataan Death March? Do you think some people would be really mad?

Those instances would be equivalent to the march in Charlottesville by the white supremacists, Ku Klux Klansmen and Nazi sympathizers. Do you wonder why so many of us in this country absolutely know that Mr. Trump is an absolute buffoon? SAL SABATUCCI Beechview

man they already dislike. It wasn’t fair to pull this on Mr. Clinton, and it isn’t fair to pull it on Mr. Trump. There are so many better and stronger reasons to denounce Mr. Trump. Comeon, people, stick with them! GILBERT LUDWIG
