Free ‘Vietnam War’ preview

WQED Multimedia will host a one-hour public screening from PBS’s upcoming “The Vietnam War” Sept. 6 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall& Museum in Oakland.
In addition to the free screening, Rocky Bleier, a Vietnam War veteran and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, will introduce the episode. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s 10part series airs on WQED beginning Sept. 17.
Opening remarks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by the documentary. At 8 p.m. WQED personality and Vietnam War veteran Chris Moore will moderate a panel discussion. Panelists include:
• Thanh Armagost, who is active with Friends of Danang and a member of Surgicorps International.
• Todd DePastino, founder and executive director of the Veterans Breakfast Club. He also is the author of six books, including “Bill Mauldin: A Life Up Front.”
• Michael Flournoy, Vietnam War veteran who served in the Army (1962-68) and was a member of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions and the First Combat Aviation Brigade. Mr. Flournoy is a retired readjustment therapist with the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System.
