Wahlburgers gets liquor license to open at The Block

Restaurant founded by Wahlberg family

- By Sandy Trozzo

Ross commissioners Monday approved transferring a liquor license from Moon to a Wahlburgers restaurant that will open in The Block Northway.

Wahlburgers is new to the area and specializes in “gourmet” hamburgers, said Charles Kudo, representing the company.

It was founded by the Wahlberg family — actors Mark and Donnie and their brother, Paul, a chef.

The restaurant will be on the second floor of The Block, formerly Northway Mall, and will have indoor seating for 140 and outdoor seating for another 40 or 50, Mr. Kudo said. It will employ 80 people.

“They are a highly soughtafter concept. I know a lot of developers in the Pittsburgh region have tried to lure them into their developments,” he said.

Commissioners asked which Wahlberg brother will attend the opening, and Mr. Kudo said he hoped all of them would attend.

No opening date was announced.

Nobody testified during a public hearing on the liquor license transfer.

The license has to be transferred from a closed restaurant in Moon because no more licenses are available in Ross, Mr. Kudo said.

“Grocery and convenience stores now qualify for restaurant licenses,” he said. “They are getting harder and harder to find in any municipalities.”
