Officials consider traffic plans for new high school

Added lane, circle under consideration

Peters School District and the township will work together to determinewhat would be the best way to get traffic to a new high school on the former Rolling Hills CountryClub property.

Ideas include creating a traffic circle or widening East McMurray Road to add a turning lane.

The former country club property — half of which is owned by the township and half by the school district — will have entrances off East McMurray and Center Church roads. The township council last month came to a consensus that a traffic circle would be the best way to control traffic flow to the site.

Peters school board on Monday unanimously authorized its architect to move ahead with coordinating the road plans with the township at a cost of $7,000.

Hayes Design Group Architects of Robinson will discuss with the township the improvements to East McMurray and Center Church roads as recommended by Traffic Planning and Design Inc., the traffic engineers who are preparing an independent traffic study of the entire parcel.

Hayes will also discuss the process for determining property lines, make revisions to the site plan incorporating the property lines, and present a revised site plan to the school board to receive feedback. Hayes will also coordinate with a third-party engineer to develop a subdivision plan for the property.
