Condor to add third weekly flight to Frankfurt from Pittsburgh
Condor Airlines will add a third weekly nonstop flight to Frankfurt, Germany, next year as part of its seasonal expansion in Pittsburgh.
In addition to a daily flight on Monday and Friday, Condor will add a third flight on Wednesdays starting June 27. It will run until Sept. 5.
As reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last week, the airline will start its seasonal service next year from Pittsburgh International Airport on May 18, more than a month earlier than this year’s June 23 start and end it Sept. 14, two weeks later than this year.
Condor officials have told the airport that the Pittsburgh flight — bolstered by the presence of many businesses with German connections in the market — is performing well compared to the other U.S. markets the airline serves. The airport eventually hopes to get the airline to commit to year-round service.
“We are happy to increase our frequency from Pittsburgh to Frankfurt with this additional flight and being able to offer our customers a smart choice for their transatlantic travels three times a week. Our Condor flights still are the only nonstop service from Pittsburgh to Germany and the bookings so far clearly showed that the Pennsylvanians love our service,” said Jens Boyd, director long haul & revenue management for Thomas Cook Group Airlines, the Condor owner.
Before Condor landed this year, the airport had not had a nonstop flight to Frankfurt since 2004, when US Airways shut down its Pittsburgh hub.
Western Pennsylvania currently is home to 125 German companies, including firms like Covestro, SAP, Robert Bosch LLC, and Lanxess. Many of them have been lobbying for a nonstop flight to Germany for years.
