2 workers hurt at power plant out of hospital
Beaver County incident killed 2
Two workers injured in a gas leak that killed two other men late Tuesday at FirstEnergy’s Bruce Mansfield Power Plant have been released from the hospital.
Thomas Cantwell, 31, of Crafton and Nathaniel W. Compton, 31, of Wellsville, Ohio, employees of Cincinnati-based Enerfab Corp., are out of the hospital, according to CEO Scott Anderson.
Another injured Enerfab employee, Michael Gorchock, 43, remains in the hospital and “continues to show signs of improvement,” Mr. Anderson said.
The three men and a FirstEnergy employee, Mark Wagner, 31, of Pulaski, were injured when a pipe was removed releasing hydrogen sulfide into the air about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the plant in Beaver County.
There was no word on Mr. Wagner’s status.
Kevin Patrick Bachner, 34, of Pittsburgh, and John Michael Gorchock, 42, of Pittsburgh, both Enerfab employees, died when the gas was released into the confined space where they were working.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration, FirstEnergy and Enerfab are investigating.
Enerfabprovides maintenance services to FirstEnergy, which owns the plant.
Enerfab has set up a memorial fund with PNC Bank for the two workers who were killed.
Donations can be sent to the Memorial Fund of John M. Gorchock Jr. and Kevin P. Bachner, 1155 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017. A donation can also be made at any PNC Bank location.
