Event shows recovery from addiction is possible
Celebrating people who have faced the challenges of recovery from addiction, the nonprofit agency Familylinks is holding its third annual Recovery Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the agency’s offices at 401 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty.
It’s a free event to support individuals in recovery and their families — and to provide access to resources in the recovery process. There will be speakers, children’s activities, food, prizes and entertainment. There will be representatives from Familylinks, Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, Allegheny County Health Department, East Liberty Family Health Care Center, the VA Hospital, Onala Recovery Center, New Century Careers, Urban League, Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Wesley Family Services and others.
In response to the needs of people affected by opioid dependency, Familylinks recently opened services at its new Suboxone Clinic located within the agency’s Recovery Support Center at 250 Shady Ave., Shadyside. The clinic receives patients referred by substance abuse and mental health providers and is available to residents of Allegheny County, 18 and older, after screening and a commitment to the clinic’s therapy and treatment plan.
The Suboxone Clinic aims to help people with opioid addiction who are following a medicationassisted treatment plan. Familylinks considers the clinic to be part of its mission to support individuals and families, and the clinic is an addition to existing support programs, according to Frederick A. Massey Jr., chief executive officer at Familylinks, in a recent press release about the new clinic.
In addition to its residential facility for women in recovery, Familylinks offers a range of outpatient services in its alcohol and drug program. There is group and individual therapy, individualized treatment plans, psychiatric services, case management and other help in support of recovery.
