‘I think it’s the vision’

As part of AT&T SportsNet’s get-to-know-you meeting, the group watched a series of reviewed goals from last season to get on the same page for how all of that goes down production-wise.

Part of the intent, too, was to help Mears get familiarized with Errey’s style, although that wasn’t totally necessary.

“When the Penguins were on and I was home, that was the first team I watched,” Mears said. “I really didn’t need to watch any [extra tape of Errey]. It was available just based on my regular viewing.”

And what did Mears see when he watched Errey?

“The vision,” Mears said. “The expertise. He’s broadcast for a long time now, a lengthy playing career. Multiple Stanley Cups. You hear that when he’s analyzing, that expertise. That’s what I’m going to try and pull from him and, and I’ll defer to him. He is the expert.”

“He’s a true pro,” Errey said of Mears. “He does his homework, which is the most important thing. He’s calm and professional. You can’t fake that job. You have to know situations in the game.

“With his background, coming from the NHL Network and knowing all the young guys, I think that’s going to be a huge key to our broadcasts. I’m excited and looking forward to
