Two men charged in Pitcairn homicide

-

Two men have been charged in the March fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man in Pitcairn during what authorities believe may have been a robbery attempt.

Brandon Thompson, 23, and Jamal Pamplin, 29, are charged with homicide, robbery, conspiracy to commit homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Anthony Bailey of Penn Hills was shot multiple times in an apartment in the 300

block of Broadway Boulevard about 12:45 a.m. March 7, Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said.

Detectives wrote in a police affidavit that a witness said one of the suspects entered the apartment, threw four $20 bills on a table and asked Mr. Bailey “Are we good?” Mr. Bailey replied “Yeah, we are good,” the affidavit said.

The second suspect then entered the apartment and started yelling at Mr. Bailey.

Mr. Bailey and the suspect then started fighting and the suspect demanded that Mr. Bailey give him all of the money, the affidavit said.

As the two men fought, the other suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot Mr. Bailey, the affidavit said. Both suspects then fled the apartment.

The affidavit does not identify the suspect who fought Mr. Bailey and the suspect who shot him.

Somehow, Mr. Pamplin was shot in the hand and leg during the altercation and was taken to UPMC Mercy, according to the affidavit.

Mr. Pamplin told Pittsburgh police officers who questioned him at the hospital that he was shot at the corner of North Aiken Avenue and Broad Street in Garfield.

Investigators, however, said they could not find any evidence that a shooting occurred there.

While investigating the shooting, Allegheny County Police encountered Mr. Thompson in a different apartment in the building where the shooting took place. Detectives said that when Mr. Thompson saw them, he ran away and dropped a gun.

Investigators determined that the gun Mr. Thompson dropped was the same one used to kill Mr. Bailey, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, detectives had several witnesses and security camera footage that showed Mr. Pamplin and Mr. Thompson leaving the shooting scene.

Mr. Thompson and Mr. Pamplin are already in custody at the Allegheny County Jail on unrelated charges, Lt. Schurman said Friday.

They will be arraigned on the new charges, he said.
