Tackle Gilbert doubtful for Jaguars game
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Steelers likely will play a third consecutive game without the services of right tackle Marcus Gilbert, who did not practice Friday and is listed as doubtful for the game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Heinz Field.
Gilbert left the second game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings with a hamstring injury. He did not play against the Chicago Bears or Baltimore Ravens the past two weeks.
Veteran reserve Chris Hubbard is slated to make his third consecutive start in Gilbert’s place.
Gilbert has been testing the injury in practice the past two weeks, but it doesn’t appear to be responding very well. He went through a full practice the past two Wednesdays but either missed or was limited the rest of the week.
Gilbert is the only Steelers player listed on this week’s status report. All other players who dealt with injuries this week are expected to play.
The Jaguars will be without linebacker Lerentee McCray, who has a knee injury. The Jaguars list four others as questionable — receivers Jaelen Strong and Marquise Lee, safety Jarrod Wilson and center Brandon Linder.
Brown to return again
Antonio Brown said he will be returning punts for the second week in a row against the Jaguars. Brown took over the punt return duties last week against the Ravens because Eli Rogers muffed a punt in Chicago.
That likely means Rogers will be inactive for a second consecutive week.
Ravens player fined
Za’Darius Smith of the Ravens was fined $18,231 for his roughing the passer penalty on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Sunday in Baltimore.
