Burgettstown continues run

-

Burgettstown is off to its best start in more than 30 years, and a trip to take on another undefeated team in Beth-Center wasn’t enough to slow the Blue Devils’ momentum.

Entering the game with the WPIAL’s top scoring defense, Class 2A No. 5 Burgettstown (6-0, 5-0) received more of a challenge from the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1) than it had all season. Still, the Blue Devils came out on top in the Class 2A Century Conference showdown, escaping with a 34-22 road win.

Burgettstown got off to a fast start to silence the Beth-Center crowd, taking a 14-0 lead on a couple of touchdown passes from Ryan Lounder. The Bulldogs fought back to tie the game on Trevor Anderson’s 61-yard run in the third quarter, but the Blue Devils took over from there. South Allegheny (1-5, 1-4).

Mohawk 27, New Brighton 13: Braydon Cameron led the way for Mohawk (4-2, 3-2) with 223 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a home win against New Brighton (16, 0-5).

Our Lady of Sacred Heart (5-2, 4-1) knocked off Class 1A No. 3 Rochester (5-1, 5-1) at home, scoring all 16 of its points in the fourth quarter to pull off the upset.

California 42, Carmichaels 7: No. 4 California (7-0, 5-0) romped to a commanding home win against Carmichaels (4-2, 4-1) in a matchup of the top two teams in the Tri-County South Conference.

Greensburg Central Catholic 21, Riverview 0: The defense did all the work for Greensburg Central Catholic (3-4, 2-2) against Riverview (1-5, 1-5), pitching a shutout at home and returning two interceptions for touchdowns.
