SHADYSIDE: “Made In Pittsburgh,” featuring the music of Pitsburgh area composers for strings, voice and piano, will be presented by the Tuesday Musical Club. The recital will take place at 1 p.m. in Levy Hall, Rodef Shalom Congregation, 4905 Fifth Ave. A reception will follow. Free.
SQUIRREL HILL: The Homestead steel strike will be the topic at a meeting of the Squirrel Hill Historical Society. A representative of the Frick Art & History Center will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of the Redeemer, 5700 Forbes Ave. The meeting is free and open to the public. OAKLAND: The University of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert at 8 p.m. in the Bellefield Hall auditorium, South Bellefield Avenue, on the Pitt campus. Free.
FRIDAY
OAKLAND: The Game 7 Gang will host the annual NBC radio broadcast of the seventh game of the 1960 World Series at the old Forbes Field Wall, located at Schenley and Roberto Clemente Drives. The event, marking the 57th anniversary of the game, will begin at 12:15 p.m., followed by the broadcast at 12:45 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held under a tent in the adjacent Schenley Plaza. HOMEWOOD: A craft fair sponsored by the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church Women will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 7507 Kelly St. The event will feature handcrafted items including afghans, scarves, jewelry, etc. Refreshment will be available HOMEWOOD: Carrone Baptist Church will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the appointment of the church’s pastor, the Rev. SHADYSIDE: The 83rd annual Solomon B. Freehof Book and Author Series, sponsored by the Sisterhood of Rodef Shalom Congregation, will open its 2017 season with a presentation by Helen Wilson at 1 p.m. at the synagogue. She will speak on her book. “Squirrel Hill: A Neighborhood History.” The program is free and open to the public. LAWRENCEVILLE: The Lawrenceville Historical Society’s annual free walking tour will take place beginning at 1 p.m. at Penn Avenue and Fisk Street. The 90-minute, docent-led tour will examine the history and architecture of Fisk Street, a Lawrenceville street that has maintained much of its Victorian and Edwardian charm. The tour will conclude at the corner of Fisk and Butler Streets. Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes. No reservations are necessary.
OAKLAND: The 90th anniversary alumni concert of the Women’s Choral Ensemble at the University of Pittsburgh will take place at 3 p.m. in the Heinz Memorial Chapel on the Pitt campus. Free.
SHADYSIDE: The 25th anniversary season of Music in a Great Space, the concert series presented by Shadyside Presbyterian Church, will continue with a 3 p.m. performance by the U.S. Air Force Heritage Brass Band. The concert is free and donations will be accepted. The church is located at 5121 Westminster Place.
