Bethel Park High School responds to threats

-

In response to “written threats of violence,” students at Bethel Park High School are prohibited from bringing their backpacks to school with them on Thursday and Monday.

School district spokeswoman Vicki Flotta would say only that written threats specifically referred to Oct. 12 and Oct. 16.

“We’re still investigating it and the police have determined that neither threat is credible,” Ms. Flotta said.

Parents received a letter last week explaining the district’s “added precautionary measures” that were put in place this week.

Also on those two days, parents are being asked to drop off their children by the athletic entrance and students will walk to the front entrance to get into the school. Students will not be allowed to use bathrooms during the fiveminute periods between classes and unannounced “protective sweeps” of the building will be conducted periodically by the Bethel Park Police Department.

Ms. Flotta said those security measures would be in place indefinitely.
