Six injured in traffic accident in Shadyside

Six people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday on Fifth Avenue in Shadyside.

The crash, reported at 10:39 a.m., occurred at Fifth and Shady Avenue, according to Allegheny County emergency officials.

One vehicle landed on its side and two passengers in the front seat had to be freed by firefighte­rs, Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoma­n Sonya Toler said. A third passenger in the back seat was able to get out on his own.

All three passengers in the other vehicle also got out of the car on their own.

The six people were being treated at UPMC Presbyteri­an. Their extent of injuries was not immediatel­y known.

Southbound lanes of Fifth Avenue were closed from Shady to Beechwood Boulevard as well as one outbound lane while emergency crews cleared the scene.
