South Fayette commissioners will have to determine how best to address a vacant seat after receiving a letter of resignation from Commissioner Jessica Cardillo.

Township manager Ryan Eggleston received a letter dated Oct. 2 from Ms. Cardillo, citing relocation as her reason for resignation.

Ms. Cardillo said in a phone interview she moved out of South Fayette in early October and still lives locally, but she did not disclose her current place of residence. She had no other comment.

She wrote in her letter, “It has been my pleasure to serve the community.”

Ms. Cardillo was sworn into office in 2014. Her term was due to end this year; she was not seeking re-election.

Commissioners will have to determine whether to leave the seat vacant or appoint someone in the interim. “From a timing standpoint, it is not clear how the commissioners will move forward,” Mr. Eggleston said.

Candidates Rebecca Sray, a Democrat, and Kelly Fritz, a Republican, are on the November ticket.

Commissioners are expected to vote to accept Ms. Cardillo’s resignation at a meeting on Wednesday.
