AG is wrong on birth control rollback lawsuit

-

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has chosen to sue the Trump administration over the contraceptive rollback (“Pa. Sues Trump Administration Over Rollback of Birth Control Mandate,” Oct. 12). Mr. Shapiro chose to do so because he feels this action violates separation of church and state and because President Donald Trump didnot seek public input.

Yet in this commonwealth, whose citizens Mr. Shapiro is supposed to represent, fellow Pennsylvanians have sued the government because they are being forced by the “state” to violate their own moral system. In addition, to my knowledge, Mr. Shapiro has not sought broad public input before filing the lawsuit.

Moreover, women would not be denied “health benefits” by this rollback; rather, those women who use contraceptives will be asked to pay for these medications, like other Pennsylvania women and men must do fortheir own prescription drugs. PHILLIP KALEIDA

Christopher Columbus made more trips to the Americas than any other explorer. That is why Christopher Columbus was picked to celebrate this.

There are people who see Columbus’ voyages led to the colonization of the Americas. If this did not happen, we would not be here.

Columbus Day should remain as it is. The city of Pittsburgh should make this federal holiday a city holiday. If some people want an Indigenous People’s Day, pick a date .
