Rogers has a broken collarbone

Walking gingerly to the sideline with his throwing shoulder throbbing in pain, Aaron Rodgers barked at Minnesota linebacker Anthony Barr.

Rodgers knew that his season was in jeopardy after Barr’s hit broke his collarbone.

Rodgers was knocked out of the 23-10 loss to the Vikings in the first quarter Sunday with an injury that may cause him to miss the rest of the season .

It’s a crushing blow to a team that entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, optimism based primarily on the right arm of one of the game’s best quarterbacks.

“It’s devastating,” receiver Randall Cobb said. “No question about it. First and foremost, that is one of my closest friends, so to see him go down with that is tough.”

Brett Hundley, the only other quarterback on the roster outside of practice squad player Joe Callahan, was rushed into duty. He finished 18 of 33 for 157 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Browns

Cleveland started a new quarterback Sunday. The results were the same. Kevin Hogan became the 28th different starter at quarterback for the Browns since 1999 after rookie DeShone Kizer was benched this week. But Hogan’s mistakes kept the Browns (0-6) winless with a 33-17 loss to Houston. It was Cleveland’s 16th consecutive road loss and dropped coach Hue Jackson’s record in Cleveland to 121. Jackson said he didn’t consider benching Hogan at halftime despite his terrible first half.

Cardinals

Adrian Peterson, at age 32, still seems to have a lot left to give in Arizona. Sunday, the fourtime All-Pro running back rushed for two touchdowns and 134 yards, as the Cardinals beat Tampa Bay, 38-33. “This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for,” Peterson said.

Elsewhere

Former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging that he remains unsigned as a result of collusion by owners after his protests during the national anthem. He opted out of his contract with the 49ers at the end of last season and remains a free agent.
