Langer wins 2nd playoff event in playoff

-

Bernhard Langer is 2 for 2 in the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs. Langer, 60, made a 30-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat Miguel Angel Jimenez in the PowerShares QQQ Championship at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Langer missed a similar putt on the first extra hole as both he and Jimenez made par. He was perfect on the secondfor his third win in his past four tournaments and seventhvictory this season.

Langer leads the Schwab Cup points standings and is followed by Scott McCarron, Kenny Perry, Jimenez and Kevin Sutherland. The points now reset and any of the top five can win the cup and $1 million bonus with a victory in the Schwab Cup Championship Nov. 10-12 at PhoenixCountry Club.

First win on Tour

Ryan Armour’s final round at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss., was downright boring, which was exactly the plan. Armour, 41, earned his first PGA Tour win by shooting a 4-under 68 at Country Club of Jackson. Armour began the final round with a five-shot lead and never seriously was challenged after finishing 19 under for the tournament. He won for the first time in 105 career starts. Armour’s win bucks a trend at Sanderson Farms, which has been dominated over the past several years by the tour’s younger golfers. Five of the previous six winners were in their 20s. Armour won $774,000, which now accounts for about a third of his career earnings on the PGA Tour. He also earned his PGA Tour card throughthe 2020 season.

Kerr climbs list

Cristie Kerr, 40, became the 27th player in LPGA Tour with 20 career victories after claiming the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Kerr, who celebrated her 40th birthday Oct. 12, was locked in a fourway tie for the lead going to the 18th hole. She made a 35foot birdie putt for an evenpar 71 and a one-shot victory at TPC Kuala Lumpur. Kerr became the first player since Catriona Matthew (42) at the 2011 Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico to win in her 40s.
