UAB agreed to a new five-year contract with coach Bill Clark that will top $1 million by the final season.

Athletic director Mark Ingram announced the agreement in principle Friday night. Clark’s $900,000 first-year pay will increase to $1.15 million in 2022.

Clark took over in 2014 and had the Blazers bowl eligible for the first time in a decade. Then UAB shut down the program for financial reasons and restarted it in June 2015.

Clark led the program’s rebuild over the past two years, and the Blazers are 5-3 in their first season back.

The Blazers had gone 519 in the previous two seasons before Clark’s arrival. They’re 11-9 under him heading into a game Saturday with Rice and can become bowl eligible with a win.

The contract is subject to approval by the University of Alabama system’s board of trustees.

UCLA

UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen missed the Bruins’ game Friday night at Utah because of a concussion. The junior starter did not make the trip after sustaining the concussion last week against No. 12 Washington. Redshirt freshman Devon Modster will make his first career start.

Alabama

Alabama reserve quarterback Mac Jones was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. Tuscaloosa Police Lt. Teena Richardson says the 19-year-old Jones was charged Friday morning with DUI and for having a fake ID. Richardson said Jones failed a field sobriety test after officers responded to a minor accident with no injuries at 2:14 a.m. He was jailed on $1,300 bond. Alabama coach Nick Saban said the freshman will be suspended from the top-ranked Crimson Tide’s game Saturday night against No. 19 LSU. Saban says more action could be taken if needed “so we can correctthe behavior.”
