Four charged in stabbing

$1,100 in cash along with heroin, cocaine, marijuana and a cell phone, according to police. Before they left, they stripped Mr. Genard’s jeans from him “because the victim held (money) within the pockets...” according to the affidavit.

Police said Ms. Quidetto told them the men divided the victim’s money then began discarding his jeans, Mr. David’s blood-covered clothes and Mr. Sullenberger’s T-shirt. They put them in a plastic garbage bag and Mr. Covington hid it in an abandoned home in Youngwood near his house, the affidavit said.

Mr. Sullenberger told police Wednesday that during a get-together of the four suspects, Mr. David said he wanted to rob Mr. Genard of his drugs and money and that he was tired of Mr. Genard.

“The details of this planned robbery were to go to Genard’s residence and [beat him up] and take his drugs and money” then use the money to buy cocaine, the affidavit said. Mr. Sullenberger said when they got to Mr. Genard’s home in Youngwood, Mr. David put him in a choke hold that exposed the victim’s back and began yelling to “get him” and “stab him.” At that point, Mr. Covington began to stab Mr. Genard, Mr. Sullenberger told police.

Police said Mr. Covington had agreed to the robbery because he believed Mr. Genard had about $20,000 and that Mr. Covington needed money to pay bills.

Mr. Covington told police he stabbed the victim numerous times with a folding knife he had been given by Mr. Sullenberger. He noted that he “stopped stabbing... when (Mr. Genard) began to plead for his life and as he was screaming and crying in pain,” police wrote in the affidavit.

Mr. Convington said the fatal cut was delivered by Mr. Sullenberger.

Mr. Covington told police that he burned the clothing along with the knife as part of a plan that included “burning the fingerprints off of the knife,” the affidavit said.

Each defendant is charged with homicide, robbery and conspiracy.
