Tina’s opens in Bloomfield

At the intersection of Lawrenceville and Bloomfield, 4121 Main, a coffee, floral design and event planning spot that opened in the spring of 2015, has been helping to shape a corridor. Across the street stands a skateboard store, a barber shop and a couple of storefronts undergoing fast-track revamps.

In the middle of this corner’s retail awakening, Tina’s has opened, a neighborhood bar from Sarah Shaffer — named for her mother — in the building at 4114 Main thatshe bought back in February.

So far, Ms. Shaffer is selling reasonably priced drinks — $3 Genesee drafts, $5 craft brews, $7 and $9 cocktails — with a food menu rollout expected within a couple weeks.

Thommy Conroy, co-owner of 4121 Main, has been hired to design Tina’s. Inside, the bar pays homage to mid-century, yet just about every detail has been updated, right down to the green checkered floor. The new bar offers green vinyl bar stools with backs, while across the narrow room custom booths provide more intimate seating. The throwback vibe continues with wood paneling and a mural of an outdoor scene Mr. Conroypainted himself.

Also in the space there’s an old-school jukebox — no playlists linked to the internet — as well as a pool table. The profits for both will be donated to a rotating charity.

Expect standard bar hours for now. Tina’s will be closed on Sundays.
