No. 1 CV loses in opener

-

Chartiers Valley might end this season as the WPIAL Class 5A champions. Their start, however, has the Colts looking up at almost everyone else.

Megan McConnell scored a game-high 24 points and MacKenzie Wagner chipped in 17, but it wasn’t enough as top-ranked Chartiers Valley (01) dropped a 56-46 decision against Altoona in the North Allegheny Tipoff tournament. It is the fifth consecutive year in which the Colts began with a season-opening loss.

If last year is any indication, Chartiers Valley will rebound. A year ago it dropped an 18-point decision against Mt. Lebanon, but still won the WPIAL title.
