Wolverines stay hot

Josey’s torrid second half paves way as Woodland Hills (5-0) wins, 75-60

There were entire seasons in the not too distant past in which Woodland Hills didn’t win five games.

This season, however, the Wolverines are off to one of the best starts in school history.

Woodland Hills (5-0, 2-0) snapped a three-game slide against Fox Chapel (4-1, 1-1) Tuesday night and also solidified itself as a team to watch in Class 6A Section 3 with a 75-60 victory against the Foxes.

Carson Cohen scored 26 points and Dom McGriff chipped in 24 for Fox Chapel, but it wasn’t enough as Tremon Josey netted 20 of his 22 in the second half for the Wolverines to close out the win. get itself back into contention against Trinity (4-1, 2-0), but the Class 5A No. 4 Hillers picked up 23 points from Joe Koroly to lead four players in double-figures in a 65-62 win against the Tigers.

Class 2A No. 5 Washington (3-1, 2-0) trailed at halftime, but Jordan Swart led a balanced attack with 14 points as the Little Prexies escaped with a 51-46 victory against South Side Beaver (14, 1-1).

Dante Spadafora scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half, while Chargers teammates Donovan Johnson (23) and Austin Wrigley (21) also eclipsed 20 as Class 2A No. 2 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (5-1, 2-0) raced to an 84-54 win against Shenango (2-4, 1-1).

Springdale (3-2, 1-1) barely averted an upset, but Michael Zolnierczy­k closed out a 24-point performanc­e with two free throws with seven seconds left in the Dymamos’ 54-53 victory against winless Summit Academy (0-5, 0-2).

Zurian Fisher and Deoveon Crute each scored 11 points as Class 3A No. 2 Aliquippa (4-0) remained unbeaten as the Quips rolled over District 10 powerhouse Farrell, 67-48.

Brian Davidson dropped in 20 points to lead three Trojans players in double-figures as Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (2-3) won its second game in a row by earning a 57-46 victory against Class 1A No. 2 Vincentian (1-2).

Mt. Lebanon (5-0, 1-0) had to wait a few extra days before it opened its Section 2 slate, but the Class 6A No. 4 Blue Devils remained undefeated with a 63-52 win against previously unbeaten Canon-McMillan (4-1, 1-1).
