Dooming of ACA will reap a health care whirlwind

-

President Donald Trump has declared that abolition of the affordable penalty for not buying health insurance in the recently enacted tax cuts will doom the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare). A probable consequence of that recent legislation is stated in a passage of the Bible’s Book of the prophet Hosea, Chapter 8, verse 7. “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.”

I expect that the whirlwind will be expansion of the federal government’s Medicare from age 65 and over to birth and over. It will probably occur early in 2021 by a Democratic majority in Congress and a Democratic president. Health insurance should be by the government, whose purpose is to protect and improve services for the residents. The purpose of insurance companies is to serve the owners of their stock.

This prospective whirlwind will be in accordance with good advice in Hosea, Chapter 10, verse 12. “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness.” HERBERT BARRY III

This is in response to U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus’ “Merry Christmas” email to me on Dec. 23.

In his email, the congressman stated that he was “particularly proud to put the finishing touches on one of the most important pieces of legislation in a generation: the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, now law of the land. Here’s the single most important reason I voted for tax reform: YOU.”

Was that email really intended for me, his retired middle-class constituent, or was it intended for one of his wealthy individual donors or a political action committee that supported him and the passage of this tax cut bill?

nearly 40 percent of the country’s wealth. That wealth gap will continue to increase with this new tax cut law.

Mr. Rothfus was a deficit hawk since entering the House. In 2013, he voted against Hurricane Sandy relief, citing the impact on the deficit. It is interesting that he voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act knowing that it is estimated to increase the debt upward of $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years. What changed? JOSEPH P. CORNIBE
