Ross Commissioners choose new president, vice-president
Board revises its meeting schedule
Steve Korbel was elected president and Dan DeMarco was elected vice president of the Ross commissioners Tuesday.
Mr. Korbel was also sworn in for his second term representing the township’s 2nd Ward.
Also sworn in were returning Commissioner Jeremy Shaffer representing the 8th Ward and newcomers Joseph Laslavic for the 4th Ward and Jason Pirring for the 6th Ward.
Doug Sample was reappointed township manager.
P.J. Murray was appointed interim solicitor, and Gateway Engineers was named interim engineer. The township will seek proposals for solicitor and engineer this month, Mr. Korbel said.
The board has changed its meeting schedule. It will hold a committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month and a business meeting at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month. Previously, the commissioners held committee meetings before the business meetings twice a month.
This month’s meetings will be held Monday and Jan. 15.
Mr. Korbel also appointed the following committee chairs: Mr. Laslavic, administration; Jack Betkowski, police; Mr. DeMarco, fire and EMS and planning and zoning; Patrick Mullin, public works and parks and recreation; and Mr. Pirring, finance.
District Judge Richard Opiela also swore in Matthew Grubb as the police department’s newest lieutenant. He descried Lt. Grubb as “one of the finest officers Ross Township has ever had.”
Returning tax collector Gerald O’Brien also was sworn in.
The Post-Gazette was named the official newspaper by an 8-1 vote, with Mr. Korbel dissenting.
