Uniontown native still in ‘Race’

-

Dashing around a European square dressed as a French fry is bad enough, but the real humiliation was saved for #TeamYale, Evan Lynyak and Henry Zhang. They reached the challenge in time to face off for first place, but lost to six other teams. Finally, a couple of Goat Yoga instructors, April Gould and Sarah Williams, stumbled in and Mr. Zhang was able to win a race.

Second-biggest frite-related humiliation? Professional eater Joey Chestnut reached the finish mat and informed the local greeter he was “the best in the world,” having set the record with more than 6 pounds of fries in eight minutes. She was spectacularly unimpressed.

Third-biggest humiliation was alcohol-related. One of last week’s challenges in Iceland involved downing an alcohol shot of something called “Black Death.” At the beginning of this week’s episode, CBS was kind enough to share footage of Ms. Leskinen trying not to puke it up.

In addition to tinkering with formats over the years, “The Amazing Race” has hinted that in a future episode, it will switch up team members. “Lost and Found,” an excellent 2006 reality show satire by Carolyn Parkhurst, did just that. So, we just might have art imitating life imitating art.

Local artist out of ‘Ink’

Pyramid Tattoo owner Rachel Helmich did not make the cut on Spike’s “Ink Master.” The show returned with a team format Tuesday, and Mrs. Helmich was one of six artists eliminated.

She inked two designs during the show. The first was a simple but bold, colorful floral: “I was the flower queen of Maui,” said Mrs. Helmich, who lived in Hawaii for a long time before returning to Bridgeville two years ago.

In the second challenge, she tattooed an exotic bird. But when three former champions divvied up artists to create teams, she and five others were left out. Mrs. Helmich was clearly disappointed: “I am the dark horse, and these people just [screwed] it up and let me go,” she said.
