Burke nets 25 points in Robert Morris’ win

Dachone Burke scored 25 points and Leondre Washington scored 14 points and visiting Robert Morris held off Fairleigh Dickinson, 81-75, Saturday in Hackensack, N.J.

Jahlil Jenkins made a layup with 3:55 left and Fairleigh Dickson trailed, 71-70. Matty McConnell made 1 of 2 free throws before Kaleb Bishop tied it at 72-72.

Burke made two free throws with 2:24 left to give Robert Morris (11-8, 5-1 Northeast Conference) the lead for good. Jenkins made a free throw and Burke’s dunk made it 76-73. Washington made 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to protect the win.

After Jenkins’ layup, Fairleigh Dickinson (5-12, 2-4) missed all three of its shot attempts, missed 3 of 8 from the free throw line and committed two turnovers.

The Colonials only fared a little better as Burke’s dunk was the team’s only field goal in the final four minutes as they missed two shots and two free throws and had two turnovers. McConnell added 11 points. Mike Holloway Jr., scored 24 points with 13 rebounds, Noah Morgan and Jenkins each scored 12 and Elyjah Williams scored 10 for the Knights.

Women

Robert Morris 63, Saint Francis 62: Down by two on the game’s final possession, senior forward Megan Smith buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded, giving Robert Morris (12-4, 5-0 NEC) a 63-62 victory against visiting Saint Francis (9-8, 4-1) in conference action from North Athletic Complex.

TCU 76, West Virginia 74: Amy Okonkwo scored 16 points, including the gamewinnin­g 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds left in overtime, and visiting TCU (12-5, 3-3 Big 12) beat its second ranked team in a row, taking down No. 15 West Virginia. Naomi Davenport and Chania Ray scored 17 points apiece for the Mountainee­rs, who virtually led the entire game.

Duquesne 54, George Washington 53: Chassidy Omogrosso’s free throw with 3.1 seconds remaining broke a tie and gave Duquesne (143, 4-0 A-10) a 54-53 victory against George Washington (7-9, 2-2). Julijana Vojinovic led the Dukes with 17 points.
