Police suspect a murdersuicide at Clairton house

-

Allegheny County Police said they were investigating the deaths of a man and woman Wednesday morning at a home in Clairton as a murder-suicide.

The bodies of Robert Lewis, 72, and Louise Lewis, 73, were found in the 900 block of School Street following a call to 911 around 8:15 a.m. about an unresponsive person on a porch, authorities said. them it’s OK if they want to have a glass of wine with dinner.”

Mr. Joyce said he’s concerned that reducing the legal limit for driving would be “basically scaring everybody” and wouldn’t reach problem drinkers who he believes are involved in the vast majority of serious crashes. Better policing would catch those drivers, he said.

Attorney Patrick Thomassey, who defends drivers facing charges of driving under the influence, questioned whether the punishment of taking away someone’s license for drunken driving causes more serious problems for society. He’s had clients who can’t get to work to support their families as a result of a drunken driving conviction.

“The fallout [from losing a driver’s license] is what people don’t appreciate unless it directly affects them,” he said. “The true drinkers, no matter what you make [the blood alcohol level], are still going to drive.”

The highway association, which commissioned the study, said in a statement the study “provides a thorough update on scientific literature” and a review of programs to address drunken driving.

It has no plans to recommend a change in the bloodalcohol level for drunken drivingat this time.

Ms. Lewis was found dead on the front porch; Mr. Lewis was found inside the open front door.

Police said there was a strong smell of natural gas and smoke in the home, and first responders found a fire around the clothes dryer.

But police said investigators determined Mr. Lewis shot Ms. Lewis before shooting himself.

Police said they do not suspect that anyone else was involved. Autopsies for the man and woman will be conducted Thursday.
