New general manager named at Rivers Casino

- By Mark Belko

Bill Keena shouldn’t have any trouble remembering the name of the new casino he is running.

Mr. Keena is taking over as general manager of Rivers Casino on the North Shore after last running a casino of the same name and owned by the same company in Des Plaines, Ill.

In Pittsburgh, he will replace Craig Clark, who was the casino’s longest tenured general manager, serving since 2011. In a statement, Rush Street Gaming, owner of the North Shore gambling venue, said only that Mr. Clark “recently left”

the casino.

Jack Horner, a casino spokesman, had no additional information to provide on his departure.

Rush Street pulled Mr. Keena out of semi-retirement to take over Rivers, which was the third top money generator of Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos last year, producing about $335 million on combined slots and table game revenues.

A 30-year industry veteran, Mr. Keena had last worked at Rush Street’s Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, which opened in July 2011. It rose to become Illinois’ top-performing casino.

Mr. Keena, who started his gaming career in 1988, also has worked in Harrah’s finance department, where his responsibilities included casino and oversight as general manager of Harrah’s in Laughlin, Nev.

After being promoted to a Harrah’s regional president, he oversaw two fullservice casinos and resorts in Missouri and two in Iowa.

“We are thrilled to have Bill back and running one of our properties,” said Greg Carlin, Rush Street CEO, in a statement. “He is an exceptional leader, focused on providing the best customer experience, working closely with the community and fostering our team member culture.”

Since opening in August 2009, Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh has had five general managers, including three in one year.

The North Shore venue has more than 2,900 slot machines and 92 table games as well as a 30-table poker room.

It has been planning a $51.5 million full-service hotel with 221 rooms on the east side of the property next to the Carnegie Science Center.
