Sen. Jeff Flake has given me hope for the GOP

-

I both read and listened to Sen. Jeff Flake’s speech in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday regarding truth. I immediately thought of my father, whose ashes are in the stream of Trout Run, Pa. I have a feeling that they have made their way to the Susquehanna or maybe even the Chesapeake Bay by now.

I also think my father may have contributed to the increasing salinity of the waters this past year as he wept for the future of the Republican Party. I believe those tears are now abated by a refreshing return to the Republican ideals he loved and supported thoughout his life. Thank you, Sen. Flake, for giving me and my father hope. CAROLE SLOAN

Hermitage those we disagree with as having merit. However, that was the only counsel of Monday’s editorial to have much merit.

The outcry and outrage of so many directed toward Donald Trump were not in response to an isolated poor choice of words that were vulgar. Rather, the president’s words were a continuation of his labeling and dismissing others as being unworthy to be among us. Muslims are terrorists, Mexicans are rapists and criminals, all Haitians have AIDS.

Throughout the history of our nation, people have come to America from situations of desperation as they desire to do today. They come with the hope of a better life for their children and for themselves. We should not deny the very best among the desperate an opportunity to be among us. REV. KENNETH WHITE

We welcome your opinion

trying to sell its readers.

I don’t expect to agree with every editorial opinion I read, but I do expect to see a thoughtful, logical and cogent argument put forward in each one. I believe thePG failed on that score.

The editorial’s last sentence asking us all to stop calling each other names and instead argue issues is very compelling. I’d suggest that comment would be better directed at the president. MAUREEN GROSHEIDER
