Police shoot man after domestic dispute in Richland

Police shot a man after responding to a domestic dispute Thursday in Richland, wounding him in the arm and stomach.

Northern Regional Police responded to a house in the 5700 block of Meridian Road about 5:50 a.m. after receiving a 911 call. Court records identify the man and woman involved in the dispute as Phillip and Elizabeth Keil.

The first officer on the scene saw Ms. Keil with head wounds and Mr. Keil outside the house. The officer took the woman away, and the man ran inside.

More officers arrived and Mr. Keil, 62, eventually came onto the porch. Officers asked him to show his hands.

“At that point, the suspect raised and pointed a firearm directly at one of the officers,” said Allegheny County Police, who are assisting in the investigat­ion.

Officers then fired at Mr. Keil. Both Keils were transporte­d to Allegheny General Hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

Ms. Keil told police that her husband suffers from depression, according to a criminal complaint. She said Mr. Keil had been pacing around the house Wednesday night but would not say why he was upset.

When Ms. Keil woke up Thursday, she said she hugged Mr. Keil but told him she was angry because he would not tell her what was wrong, according to the complaint.
