Seton Hill freshman Trest making a name around the PSAC
The PSAC picks a freshman of the week in women’s basketball and Cheyenne Trest has won the award for the West Division a half dozen times. Trest is a 5-7 freshman guard at Seton Hill University, an NCAA Division II school. She is averaging 14.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists, and is shooting 82 percent from the free-throw line. Seton Hill started the week with a 15-4 record and a sixgame winning streak.
Seton LaSalle grad finishing among the best at Pitt-Johnstown
Four years ago, Clancy was a senior at Seton LaSalle and helped the Rebels win a WPIAL basketball championship. Now he’s a senior at Pitt-Johnstown and will finish among the most versatile guards at the school. Heading into this week, Clancy was fourth on Pitt-Johnstown’s list for scoring (1,288 points), fourth in assists (469) and fifth in 3-pointers (201). This season, he is averaging 16.2 points and 4.6 assists.
Top scorer at Waynesburg a graduate of Washington
A year ago, Popeck was one of the top scoring guards in the WPIAL at Washington High School. Now he is a top freshman at Waynesburg University. Twice, Popeck has been selected the ECAC Division III South rookie of the week. So far this season, Popeck is averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2 assists a game. Waynesburg entered the week with a 7-10 record.
