Lass scores 24 in Duquesne victory

Kadri-Ann Lass recorded a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds in visiting Duquesne’s 78-70 victory Sunday against Richmond at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va. Lass also added six blocks which gave her the single-season program record.

Julijana Vojinovic scored 23 and Chassidy Omogrosso 14 for the Dukes (19-4, 9-1 Atlantic 10).

Michaela Parson led all scorers with 28 for the Spiders (9-14, 4-6).

The first quarter had five ties and a pair of lead changes. Backto-back 3-pointers by Omogrosso and Vojinovic gave the Dukes an eight point lead at 21-13 with 2:18 left. Vojinovic finished the quarter with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting as Duquesne led, 2118, after the first 10 minutes.

Richmond was able to make it a 2-point game twice in the second quarter. Although the Dukes has only one field goal in the last five minutes of the quarter, they were able to take a five point lead into halftime, 38-33.

Duquesne opened up the third quarter on a 14-1 run to take a 52-34 lead, its largest of the game. The Spiders countered with a 9-0 run over the next 1:33 to cut the deficit to nine points at 42-43. The Dukes lead would stay at nine heading into the final quarter.

Lass opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer putting the Dukes ahead by 12 at 62-50. Duquesne would not let the Spiders get within two possession­s of the lead the rest of the way.

The Dukes will return home for a pair of games beginning Wednesday against VCU followed by Saturday against Saint Joseph’s.

Penn State 74, Michigan State 59: After a back-and-fourth first quarter, a 19-6 burst to end the second quarter propelled the Penn State to a Big Ten victory against visiting Michigan State. The Lady Lions (14-10, 56) connected on 41 percent of their shots from the field to improve to 9-2 when outshootin­g their opponents, with the Spartans (14-10, 4-7) hitting just 38 percent from the field in the game. Penn State also held the edge in steals, 12-5, scoring 14 points off the fastbreak.

Florida State 66, Pitt 59: A.J. Alix scored 25 points to lead visiting No. 10 Florida State past Pitt (10-14, 2-9 ACC). After a backand-forth game that featured 14 lead changes, the Seminoles (194, 7-3) pulled ahead with an 8-0 run over 2:07 late in the fourth quarter to end Pitt’s upset bid. Alayna Gribble scored 13 points to lead the Panthers while Yacine Diop recorded 12 points and eight rebounds. Diop has scored in double digits in nine of Pitt’s last 10 games.
