Wolverines claim at least share of Section 3 title with victory

-

Woodland Hills traditionally has had problems in its rivalry with Penn Hills.

For the most part, it has been a one-sided affair with the Indians holding more than a 2-to-1 advantage over the Wolverines.

None of that mattered Tuesday. It was just Woodland Hills’ time.

Amante Britt scored a game-high 27 points and Keandre Bowles added in 20 and pulled in 10 rebounds for good measure as the Wolverines (18-3, 11-2) pulled out a 66-56 home win against Class 6A No. 4-ranked Penn Hills (18-3, 10-3) to capture at least a share of the Section 3 title, its first section crown since 2012.

“It’s big for our program because the kids who have been playing in this program have been working hard year after year,” Woodland Hills coach Odell Miller said. “We went to the [WPIAL] semis last year and we’re trying to make a run and, anytime you can beat one of the top three teams in our section is big.”

Woodland Hills can clinch the section outright with a victory Friday against PennTrafford.
