Dukes, Colonials snag recruits

Kam Carter, Pitt’s former defensive lineman who made waves nationally for his role in Netflix’s “Last Chance U” documentar­y series, has found a new home in Pittsburgh.

Carter was announced as a member of Duquesne’s 2018 national signing day class Wednesday. He announced his intent to leave Pitt in early January and joins a Dukes group that includes two WPIAL products and five mid-year Football Bowl Subdivisio­n transfers.

Former Central Valley offensive lineman Eric Neill and Rochester defensive back Mahlik Strozier round out Duquesne’s WPIAL crop.

Robert Morris announced an eight-player recruiting class, the first of new head coach Bernard Clark’s career.

The class includes three former WPIAL standouts — former Montour linebacker Brayden Jones, former Penn Hills linebacker Darrell Mason and former Gateway defensive back Arrington Johns.

Pro basketball

The New York Knicks’ Kristaps Porzingis tore the ACL in his left knee Tuesday night and will miss the rest of the season and perhaps a good deal of the next.

• Lou Williams and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a contract extension. Williams is averaging 23.3 points during the best season of his career and had been mentioned as a trade possibilit­y in the final year of a contract that is paying him $7 million this season.

Baseball

Former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is joining the MLB Network as a studio analyst. Girardi was fired after 10 seasons as Yankees manager and replaced by Aaron Boone.

Tennis

Top-seeded David Goffin of Belgium reached the quarterfin­als of the Open Sud de France in Montpellie­r, France, by beating French veteran Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-2. Sixth-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev joined Goffin in the final eight with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. He will face the winner of an all-French match between third-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Nicolas Mahut.

Golf

Tony Romo, former Dallas Cowboys quarterbac­k and NFL commentato­r on CBS, was named to be in the field for next month’s PGA Tour event in the Dominican Republic — the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championsh­ip March 22-25.
