Pitt assistant Hill joins pro ranks

Renaldo Hill, Pitt’s defensive backs coach the past three seasons under Pat Narduzzi, has left the staff and will take a position with the Miami Dolphins, according to a source. The news was first reported by Panther-Lair. com. Hill is the third assistant coach from Narduzzi’s original staff, to depart since the end of the season.

Clemson defensive coordinato­r Brent Venables became the second assistant coach to reach the $2 million plateau after school trustees approved a $300,000 raise. Venables joined LSU defensive coordinato­r Dave Aranda ($2.5 million) as the only college assistants to annually make $2 million.

• The University of New Mexico suspended head coach Bob Davie for 30 days without pay, following multiple investigat­ions that examined whether he and coaching staff interfered with criminal investigat­ions or misconduct cases involving players.

San Francisco 49ers quarterbac­k Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million deal, $27.5 million a year on average, making it the richest in NFL history.

• The Indianapol­is Colts have sought permission to interview Buffalo Bills defensive coordinato­r Leslie Frazier for their head coaching vacancy. He was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2010-13.

• The Kansas City Chiefs cut cornerback Darrelle Revis, an Aliquippa native, who had signed a two-year, incentive-laden contract in November. He finished with two passes defended and 10 tackles in five regular-season games, including two starts.

Kevin Streelman and PGA Tour rookie Beau Hossler each had a 7-under 65 on different golf courses and shared the lead after one round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Dustin Johnson shot a 67 at Spyglass Hill, and Rory McIlroy made his tournament debut with a scrappy finish to salvage a 68. He played alongside Phil Mickelson, who shot 31 on the back nine at Spyglass for a 69.

• Defending champion Brett Rumford shot an 8-under 64 for a two-stroke lead over English veteran Lee Westwood in the World Super 6 Perth in Perth, Australia.
