HOMESTEAD

-

The borough council last week approved the purchase of a Toyne pumper firetruck at a cost not to exceed $463,000.

A fire official said it was the first new firetruck the borough has purchased in 28 years.

Deputy fire Chief Tim Eads of Homestead No. 171 Fire Department said the station will sell its two older fire engines and use the proceeds toward the cost of the new pumper.

Mr. Eads said the new truck will be able to pump 1,500 gallons of water per minute.

The borough will pay $57,000 toward the cost of the pumper each year for 10 years.

Homestead Manager Matt Staniszewski said borough officials will look for grant money and traditional financing to cover the cost of it.
