The sister of a slain 27year- old Homewood woman called on the killer to come forward Thursday, fewer than 24 hours after her sister was shot to death.

Mia Green was shot multiple times about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday behind a home in the 7300 block of Hamilton Avenue, according to Pittsburgh police and the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office. She lived nearby, said her sister, Monique Gease, 29.

“I want whoever did this to know it hurts the family, it hurts these kids,” Ms. Gease said. “Everybody is hurt right now, we’re devastated, and we just need whoever did this to turn themselves in.”

Ms. Green was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian at 6:58 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

“By the time we got to the hospital, they were directing us to homicide,” Ms. Gease said, her voice cracking.

Ms. Green was a cook at a Downtown steakhouse, Ms. Gease said. She didn’t have children but cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.

“She was basically another parent figure,” Ms. Gease said.

Ms. Green was funny, always telling jokes, and quick to offer help if a family member needed it, Ms. Gease said. She recently celebrated her birthday with a trip to Las Vegas.

Ms. Gease said she last saw her sister about a week ago and everything seemed normal.

“I don’t know why anyone would be after her,” she said. “I don’t know why someone would do that, she definitely didn’t deserve that. It’s crazy. It’s unbelievable.”

Police had made no arrests in the case as of late Thursday.
