• Trump to visit here next Saturday.
Third airport stop set for March 10
President Donald Trump will return to the Pittsburgh area next Saturday.
The visit will come just three days before the special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District, although the announcement from the president’s campaign staff did not mention the race or the Republican candidate, state Rep. Rick Saccone of Elizabeth Township.
Mr. Trump will appear at the Atlantic Aviation hangar at Pittsburgh International Airport. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening to the public at 4 p.m.
“The president is really looking forward to visiting the Pittsburgh area to highlight the benefits that his historic tax cuts are providing hardworking families across Pennsylvania and to celebrate our booming economy now that America is once again open for business,” said a statement by Michael S. Glassner, chief operating officer of the Trump campaign.
The rally originally had been scheduled in mid-February, but was postponed after the school shootings on Feb. 14 in Parkland, Fla.
The Atlantic Aviation hangar is a familiar venue for Mr. Trump: He stopped there twice during the 2016 campaign, with his “Trump Force One” Boeing jet serving as a dramatic backdrop. More recently, on Jan. 18, he visited an industrial facility in nearby North Fayette, where he talked about tax cuts.
While a visit from the president might benefit Mr. Saccone’s hotly contested race against Democrat Conor Lamb, Mr. Trump has sometimes been wary of risking his prestige on candidates whose prospects are uncertain.
Mr. Trump barely mentioned Mr. Saccone outside of a tweet during his North Fayette visit, though that trip was an official White House stop. The event next Saturday is explicitly political — paid for by his campaign — although it remains unknown how significant a presence Mr. Saccone will have.
“Rick is very pleased to have the president’s support and he’s thrilled to welcome him back to Southwestern Pennsylvania,” said a statement from the Saccone campaign.
