Michigan takes down Purdue in Big Ten

Michigan will hang another banner in Ann Arbor.

And for the second consecutiv­e year, John Beilein’s basketball team will enter the NCAA tournament with a blaze of momentum.

Moritz Wagner had 17 points and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman added 15 points as the Wolverines ran through Purdue at Madison Square Garden, 75-66, to capture their second Big Ten tournament title in a row.

Wagner was named the tournament’s most outstandin­g player.

The Wolverines (28-7) followed up their stunning 2017 Big Ten tournament run with another four wins in four days in New York City and have won nine in a row.

More Men

American Athletic: Jacob Evans scored 19 points and Cincinnati won at Wichita State (24-6, 14-4) to wrap up the conference title. Cincinnati (27-4, 16-2) survived a slugfest of a second half as the teams combined for just two baskets in the final five minutes.

Atlantic Sun: Lipscomb led by 29 points at halftime, went up by 32 in the second half, then saw the lead get shredded down to five. Garrison Mathews scored 33 points and the secondseed­ed Bisons (23-9) recovered in the final minutes to beat top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast (23-11), 108-96, in the conference title game in Fort Myers, Fla. and win the automatic berth into the field of 68 for the first time.

Missouri Valley: LoyolaChic­ago (28-5) earned its first NCAA tournament appearance in 33 years with a 65-49 win against Ilinois State (1815) in the championsh­ip game in St. Louis. Donte Ingram scored 18 points and Cameron Krutwig added 11 points and nine rebounds for Loyola-Chicago.

Big South: Carlik Jones swished a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give host Radford (22-12) a 55-52 victory in the conference championsh­ip and its first NCAA tournament berth since 2009 with a 55-52 win against Liberty (2014).

Women

Big 12: Jatarie White scored 11 points to help No. 7 Texas (26-5) beat West Virginia, 68-55, in a Big 12 semifinal in Oklahoma City. Naomi Davenport scored 17 points and Kristina King added 12 for West Virginia (21-11), which was the defending tournament champion.

ACC: Asia Durr scored 17 points and Sam Fuehring converted a key three-point play in the final minute, helping No. 4 Louisville (322) beat No. 5 Notre Dame (293), 74-72, to win its first ACC tournament title in Greenboro, N.C. The top-seeded Cardinals won their first conference tournament since 1993.

Southeaste­rn: A’ja Wilson helped eighth-ranked South Carolina (26-6) become the first Southeaste­rn Conference women’s program to win four consecutiv­e tournament titles, snapping the nation’s longest winning streak at 32 with a 62-51 upset of No. 2 Mississipp­i State (32-1) in Nashville, Tenn.

Atlantic 10: Brianna Cummings, the tournament’s most outstandin­g player, scored 17 points to help No. 5 seed George Washington (19-13) win its seventh A-10 title with a 6549 victory over sixth-seeded Saint Joseph’s (18-14) in Richmond, Va.

Big Ten: Kelsey Mitchell scored 25 points and Stephanie Mavunga added 15 points, 21 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead Ohio State (257) past Maryland (27-6) for the conference tournament title with a 79-69 win in Indianapol­is.
