GNC plans to open thousands more retail outlets in India

GNC is raising its stake in India, where it has had a presence since 2004. The Pittsburgh-based health and wellness retailer announced its current 50 retail locations in India will grow by 1,000 this year and another 3,000 retail outlets by 2020. GNC said it will be working with master franchise partner Guardian Healthcare Services Pvt. Ltd of India on the expansion. The announceme­nt comes less than a month after GNC said it had entered a strategic partnershi­p with Harbin Pharmaceut­ical Group Holding Co. in China.

FCC warns consumers of ‘neighbor spoofing’ scam

The Federal Communicat­ions Commission is warning consumers about “neighbor spoofing” scams where thieves manipulate caller ID informatio­n to make calls look like they are coming from the consumer’s area code. The tactic makes the caller seem more legitimate. To avoid being scammed, the agency recommends consumers don’t answer calls from unknown numbers; don’t provide personal informatio­n over the phone; and consider call blocking tools provided by phone companies or third-party app developers.

PPG chief executive’s compensati­on climbed in 2016

PPG chairman and chief executive Michael McGarry earned $14.2 million in compensati­on last year, up from $12.5 million in 2016, according to the company’s proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That figure includes salary, stock and option awards, an incentive award, value of retirement plans, and other items such as use of a company airplane. Mr. McGarry earned 382 times more than PPG’s median employee compensati­on of $37,307, according to a pay ratio calculatio­n included in the filing. The Downtownba­sed coatings maker has about 47,000 employees worldwide.
