The answer is fewer, not more, guns

-

I would like state Sen. Don White, R-Indiana County, to explain the discrepancy in his proposal to allow school districts to create their own gun laws (March 18, “Bill Letting Schools Arm Staff Advances”).

Judging by Mr. White’s bravado concerning his own guntoting ability, I would assume that he might be one of our legislators who carries a weapon inside the Capitol, even though the public is prohibited — another abuse of legislative power.

We have recently witnessed incidents involving armed teachers. In one, a teacher, apparently undergoing mental duress, fired a gun through a window. In another, a “supposedly” trained educator inadvertently discharged his weapon while teaching a class how to “responsibly” handle firearms. In that incident, a young student was injured — thankfully not lifethreatening, but it could have been.

Whenwill NRA puppets such as Mr. White come to their senses? They must realize that in the case of arming citizens, less is more. The fewer guns out there, the better we will all be. GENE WATSON

Moon Trump continues to dip his toe into the waters of authoritarianism. I depend on my members of Congress — U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, Sen. Pat Toomey and Sen. Bob Casey — to defend this nation’s founding principles and our democracy.

This attack on Mr. McCabe’s credibility demonstrates an effort to undermine the FBI and law enforcement and intelligence professionals. As a citizen, I will not tolerate this behavior from the executive branch.

I beseech our elected representatives to support and protect the special counsel investigation of the Trump campaign and Russian interference in the 2016 election, and to enforce our democracy by protecting and preserving those roles and departments designed to enforce it. High school sophomore Daevan Mangalmurti is wise beyond his years in his thoughtprovoking essay in the March 18 Forum, “How to Prevent School Shootings: An Urban Example.”

There are many problems within our schools, but first and

foremost is the need to keep our children safe while they’re there.

We have the knowledge and understand what that will take. There can’t be any compromising. These measures need to be taken DONNA DALKE Bridgeville
