Pittsburgh Opera’s Song of Thrones

-

When and where: March 19 at the Pittsburgh Opera headquarters, Strip District.

Anticipation was running high for the second annual Pittsburgh Opera’s Fashion Event. The question: “Would it live up to last year?” was on everyone’s lips after such a fantastic debut last spring that mixed opera fashions and performances along with a runway show showcasing curated pieces from the legendary Emphatics boutique. “We knew that people would expect a lot after such a successful show last year. We wanted to go in a totally different direction this year to keep it exciting,” said Pittsburgh Opera director Christopher Hahn.

Exciting was an understatement. This year’s theme: “Song of Thrones,” played off of “Game of Thrones” with the idea that “spring (not winter!) is coming.” The featured designer, Diana Misetic, owner of Little Black Dress in Shadyside, created more than a dozen custom looks for the runway and borrowed a few one-of-akind pieces made for her clients to bring the total to 18. “It was a huge success. Hours of work put into an emotional process of creating a collection paid off. I am so happy I had this opportunity to work with such an amazing team at the Pittsburgh Opera,” said Ms. Misetic. The fashions were elegant, fierce and meticulously executed, elevated by “Game of Thrones” Khaleesi-worthy plaits and makeup by Studio Booth. The show opened with a band of leather-clad male models prowling the stage carrying torches, setting the tone for the dramatic event to follow. And while the Opera’s resident artists performed less it seemed this year, it enhanced their finale, creating a crescendo effect as they sang onstage while the models took their final walk. The event raised $28,000 for the Opera.

So this begs the question: How on Earth will they top this next year? I guess we will have to wait and see. Get your tickets early to be #SEEN at this fabulous event — one of the best of the year.
